Information about Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Gettysburg had its start as a tavern owned by Samuel Gettys, a settler and early businessman, who built the tavern between 1774 and 1775 where soldiers and traders came to rest often, as it sat on the Shippensburg - Baltimore and Philadelphia - Pittsburgh cross roads. The town of Gettysburg wasn't founded until 1786 where it was named after Gettys.

Gettysburg, home to the Battle of Gettysburg (1863) of the American Civil War, draws over 3 million tourists visiting the historical sites around the small community as well as the battlefield itself. Gettysburg has many activities and guided tours to offer to visitors that are interested in the Gettysburg area and the history of the community and the battle. The most common ways to tour the Battlefield are guided bus or auto tours. Bus tours of the National Park include enclosed, double-decker and historic bases and either audio tours or tours with a Licensed Battlefield Guide providing the narrative. However, you can simply pick up a Battlefield map at the Visitor Center and do a complete on-your-own tour following a series of signs and narratives from the National Park.

One of the most popular times to visit Gettysburg is in the Summer and early Fall months, about June through October.

Hagelgans & Veronis, LLP. represents clients throughout Central PA, including residents of Columbia, New Holland, Lititz, Lebanon, Adamstown, Reamstown, Shrewsbury, Oxford, Malvern, Chester County, Dauphin County, Lebanon County and Berks County.
